Although most of us do not realise it, everything around us is changing quickly. Probably the thing that changes the fastest is technology. Remember 2008? Only a few years ago the first iPhone was released. And now a few years down the line, we eagerly await the fifth version. This is the kind of change that Matt was talking about. Proof and maybe a reason of this is Moore's law. Moore's law, named after Intel Co-founder, Gordon Moore, states that the number of transistors that can fit on a chip will double every two years (almost). This type of growth is called exponential. Ever heard the story of the Indian Emperor? The story goes that when chess was invented, the inventor was offered, by the emperor, anything he wanted because his invention was so great. The inventor asked the emperor to put a grain of rice on the first square of the board, two grains on the second, four on the third and so on until the 64th square. This would have added up to 9,223,372,036,854,780,001 grains of rice. This is exponential growth and if it is applied to technology, it shows the kind of growth illustrated in Moore's law.
